The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations scheduled on Monday, March 2, 2026, at centres in several Middle Eastern countries, citing escalating security concerns amid the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict and wider regional tensions.
In an official notice issued to CBSE-affiliated schools in the region, the Board said that examinations scheduled for both Class X and Class XII on March 2 will not be held as planned and that new dates will be announced later after assessing the situation.
Why the Decision Was Taken
CBSE stated that the decision was made in view of the current security situation in parts of the Middle East, where students and exam staff could face risks due to regional instability linked to the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Iran (with US involvement). The Board said it is prioritising the safety and well-being of students, invigilators and school communities.
Countries Affected
According to official updates and media reports, the postponement applies to CBSE schools in seven Middle Eastern nations:
- Bahrain
- Iran
- Kuwait
- Oman
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates (UAE)
These countries host a significant number of Indian schools where board exams for CBSE students were scheduled.
Review and Next Steps by CBSE
The Board has said it will review the regional situation on March 3, 2026, and then decide on whether to further adjust the examination schedule, including exams slated to begin from March 5 onwards. Schools, students and parents have been advised to stay in touch with official channels for updates and avoid relying on unofficial notices.
Clarifying Misinformation
Earlier reports and viral social media posts claimed that CBSE had cancelled all remaining board exams for Middle East centres and would evaluate students on an alternate formula — but CBSE denied these claims, confirming that the only announced change so far is the postponement of the March 2 papers and that any circular claiming cancellations was fake.
Impact on Students and Schools
The postponement affects thousands of Indian expatriate students preparing for crucial Class 10 and Class 12 board exams in the Middle East. While exams inside India and in unaffected international centres will continue as scheduled, students in the listed countries now face uncertainty about new dates and preparation continuity.
Parents and students are advised to watch CBSE’s official website and verified school communication for the latest announcements on revised exam timetables.
