New Delhi, 31 July 2024 — The Ministry of Education marked the 4th anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam 2024, held at the Manekshaw Centre Auditorium in New Delhi. The event, attended by key figures such as Minister of State for Education Shri Jayant Chaudhary and Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, along with academicians and educational leaders, focused on unifying educational standards across India’s diverse school boards.

Key Panel Discussion on Educational Equivalence

A central highlight of the event was a panel discussion on the “Equivalence of Curriculum and Assessment across all School Boards.” This discussion built on previous deliberations from a conference held at PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development) on 25-26 July.

The panel featured prominent figures including:

  • Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL)
  • Shri Anandrao V. Patil, Additional Secretary, DoSEL
  • Prof. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director, NCERT
  • Prof. Indrani Bhaduri, CEO and Head, PARAKH

Ms. Asano Sekhose, Chairperson of the Nagaland Board of School Education, discussed the challenges and opportunities in establishing academic equivalence among various education boards. Insights from international practices were shared by Dr. Jonas Bertling, Program Lead at ETS, Princeton, who emphasized adopting global best practices while respecting local contexts.

Dr. V.P. Yadav, Chairman of the Haryana Board of School Education, highlighted the role of digital platforms in achieving assessment consistency. Shri Rahul Singh, Chairperson of CBSE, outlined the comprehensive approach needed for achieving educational equivalence.

The event included a dynamic Q&A session, moderated by Shri Anandrao V. Patil, where attendees engaged with the panelists on implementing actionable policies.

Future Directions

Shri Sanjay Kumar urged for collaboration among all boards to enhance educational standards across India. The commitment to curriculum and assessment equivalence remains a priority, promising significant steps towards educational reform.
