Dharmendra Pradhan Launches NATS 2.0 Portal with ₹100 Cr Stipends

On July 30, 2024, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education, officially launched the National Apprenticeship and Training Scheme (NATS) 2.0 portal in New Delhi. This new initiative marks a significant advancement in enhancing apprenticeship opportunities and bridging the skills gap for India’s youth.

Major Investment in Apprenticeships

At the launch event, Shri Pradhan also disbursed ₹100 crore in stipends through the Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) mode. These stipends will support apprentices across various sectors, including IT/ITes, manufacturing, and automotive industries, providing them with practical training while earning a financial allowance.

Features of the NATS 2.0 Portal

The NATS 2.0 portal is designed to streamline the apprenticeship process, making it easier for students to register, apply for apprenticeships, and manage their stipend payments. The portal will also assist industries in posting job vacancies, managing contracts, and tracking apprenticeship programs. Developed by the Ministry of Education with support from AICTE and BoATs/BoPT, this platform aims to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of apprenticeship schemes.

Event Highlights and Panel Discussions

The launch event featured two insightful panel discussions. The discussions addressed the future of apprenticeships, including the integration of Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programs (AEDP), credit systems for apprenticeships, and leveraging technology for efficient DBT and e-Governance. These panels included esteemed dignitaries, academicians, and students, reflecting a broad consensus on the importance of enhancing the apprenticeship ecosystem.

Aligning with NEP 2020

The NATS 2.0 portal supports the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to integrate vocational education with general education. This integration is designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring better employability and career progression.

Call to Action

Shri Pradhan urged educational institutions and industries to actively engage with the NATS 2.0 portal. He emphasized the need for apprenticeship programs to become a widespread movement, encouraging all stakeholders to contribute to this transformative initiative.

The launch of the NATS 2.0 portal represents a major step forward in empowering India’s youth with the skills and opportunities needed to succeed in a dynamic job market
