The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially declared the CBSE Class 12 Result 2026, bringing relief to over 17 lakh students across India and abroad. Students can now access their marksheets through the official portals including cbseresults.nic.in, results.cbse.nic.in, DigiLocker, and UMANG.
This year, the overall pass percentage for the CBSE Class 12 board examinations stands at 85.20%, marking a decline of 3.19 percentage points compared to last year’s 88.39%.
Despite the slight drop in results, girls once again outperformed boys, continuing a trend that has remained consistent in recent years.

According to official data released by the board:
- 17,80,365 students registered for the examination
- 17,68,968 students appeared

The board conducted the Class 12 examinations between February 17 and April 10, 2026, across India and overseas centres.
Girls Continue to Lead in CBSE Results
Girls once again recorded a significantly better performance than boys in the CBSE Class 12 examinations.
Gender-wise Pass Percentage 2026
| Category | Pass Percentage |
|---|---|
| Girls | 88.86% |
| Boys | 82.13% |
| Transgender Candidates | 100% |
Girls outperformed boys by nearly 6.73 percentage points, reflecting a continuing trend of stronger academic performance among female students.
Trivandrum Emerges as Best Performing Region
Among all CBSE regions, Trivandrum recorded the highest pass percentage at 95.62%, maintaining its strong academic reputation.
Meanwhile, Prayagraj recorded the lowest regional pass percentage at 72.43%.
Education experts say regional performance differences highlight variations in academic support systems, evaluation preparedness, and school-level infrastructure.
More Than 94,000 Students Score Above 90%
The 2026 board results also saw a large number of high scorers despite the decline in the overall pass percentage.
According to official statistics:
- More than 94,000 students scored above 90%
- Over 17,000 students crossed 95% marks
The figures indicate that competition for admission to top colleges and universities is expected to remain intense this year.
CBSE Does Not Release Merit List Again
Continuing its policy from previous years, CBSE did not release an official toppers or merit list.
The board stated that the decision aims to reduce unhealthy competition and excessive academic pressure among students. However, merit certificates will still be issued to the top 0.1% performers in each subject.
Major Change in Evaluation Process This Year
One of the biggest developments in the CBSE 2026 examinations was the implementation of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for evaluation.
Education experts believe the digital evaluation process introduced stricter and more transparent assessment standards, which may have contributed to the slight decline in pass percentage.
Experts also noted that CBSE is increasingly focusing on competency-based and conceptual learning under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), reducing dependence on rote memorisation.

What the 2026 Results Indicate
The CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 reflects a shift toward more analytical and competency-based assessment patterns.
While the overall pass percentage has declined slightly, the large number of students scoring above 90% indicates that academic competition remains extremely high, especially for admissions to top universities, engineering colleges, and professional courses.
Education experts believe the coming years may witness further reforms in board examination patterns as India’s education system moves toward skill-focused and application-oriented learning.
