The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially released the NEET PG 2026 exam schedule, confirming that the highly anticipated postgraduate medical entrance exam will be conducted on August 30, 2026.

The announcement is part of a broader revision in the NBEMS examination calendar, which also includes updated timelines for NEET-SS, DrNB, and other diploma exams, giving much-needed clarity to medical aspirants across the country.

Major Change: Revised NBEMS Exam Calendar 2026

Along with NEET PG, NBEMS has introduced key updates in its examination schedule:

  • NEET PG 2026: August 30, 2026
  • NEET SS 2026: Expected in December 2026
  • DrNB / DNB Exams: Revised timelines for final theory and practical exams
  • Diploma Exams: Conducted in multiple sessions across the year

The revised calendar aims to streamline exam cycles and avoid overlaps, ensuring smoother conduct of national-level medical examinations.

Why the Delay in NEET PG 2026 Matters

Unlike previous years when NEET PG was typically conducted around May, the 2026 exam has been shifted to late August, marking a significant change in the academic cycle.

This shift could impact:

  • Admission timelines for MD/MS courses
  • Availability of resident doctors in hospitals
  • Counselling and academic session start dates

However, the revised schedule also gives aspirants more preparation time, which many see as a positive move.

Eligibility Criteria and Key Requirements

To appear for NEET PG 2026, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold an MBBS degree from a recognized institution
  • Complete a one-year mandatory internship
  • Internship deadline expected by September 30, 2026

The exam will be conducted in computer-based mode (CBT) across multiple cities in India.

What This Means for Medical Aspirants

The updated schedule allows candidates to plan their preparation more strategically. With a clear timeline now in place, aspirants can:

  • Extend revision cycles
  • Focus on mock tests and performance analysis
  • Align internship completion with eligibility deadlines

Experts suggest that the additional time should be used wisely, as competition for PG medical seats remains intense.

NEET SS & DrNB Updates: What’s New

NBEMS has also revised schedules for super-specialty and advanced medical courses:

  • NEET SS 2026 will be conducted later in the year, likely in December
  • DrNB final exams have been rescheduled to ensure better coordination with training completion timelines

These changes are expected to reduce scheduling conflicts and improve overall exam management.
