New Delhi, November 21, 2024: In a major step towards inclusive education and skill development, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the Viksit Bharat Initiative for Student Innovation and Outreach Network (VISION) Portal. This groundbreaking initiative is designed to nurture innovation, education, and entrepreneurship skills among underprivileged children, offering them a gateway to mentorship and opportunities.

Empowering Students Through Democratized Startup Skills

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the portal’s transformative potential to “democratize startup skills” by reaching students in remote and underserved regions. He remarked, “An initiative like VISION provides an opportunity for even the most underprivileged to access the startup ecosystem, bridging the gap between urban and rural India.”

The Minister underlined India’s remarkable growth in the startup ecosystem, which has surged from 350 startups in 2014 to over 1.67 lakh today, ranking India as the third-largest startup ecosystem globally. He credited this success to the conducive environment created under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the introduction of progressive policies such as the Startup India initiative.

Fostering Innovation Beyond IT

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted unique success stories like lavender farming startups in Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing the diversification of innovation into fields like agriculture, biotechnology, and space. He noted, “Startups are not confined to IT. With proper guidance, they can flourish in diverse sectors, empowering communities and fostering economic growth.”

Role of Biotechnology and the Bio-E3 Policy

The Minister also elaborated on India’s achievements in biotechnology, a key driver of the future economy. He highlighted the Bio-E3 policy, which focuses on leveraging biotechnology for the economy, employment, and environment. With biotech startups growing from 50 in 2014 to nearly 9,000 today, he projected that the next industrial revolution would be bio-economy driven.

Dr. Singh remarked, “Biotechnology is not only shaping India’s future but also contributing to global sustainability. From DNA vaccines to environmental innovations, Indian biotech startups are making a significant mark.”

Technology as a Bridge Between Urban and Rural India

Addressing the role of technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh pointed out how smart devices have enabled students from remote areas to achieve extraordinary success in exams like IITs and Civil Services. He described VISION as a tool to amplify this technological revolution by connecting underserved students with world-class resources.

National Education Policy 2020 and Public-Private Partnerships

Dr. Jitendra Singh lauded the flexibility introduced by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which allows students to pursue interdisciplinary subjects and unconventional career paths. He also stressed the importance of public-private partnerships to ensure the sustainability of startups, citing India’s achievements in private space technology as an example.

A Step Towards Vision India 2047

In his closing remarks, Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed optimism about India’s trajectory as a global hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
