The Directorate of Education (DoE) has released the CUET 2026-27 academic calendar, announcing that online registrations for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2026 will commence in the first week of April 2026. This update provides much-needed clarity to lakhs of Class 12 students and undergraduate aspirants planning to secure admission in central, state, and participating universities across India for the 2026-27 academic session.

CUET remains the single-window entrance exam for admission to undergraduate programmes in over 300 universities, including all Central Universities. The early announcement of the registration window allows students to prepare documents and plan subject choices well in advance.

Important Timeline for CUET 2026

  • Registration Start: First week of April 2026 (as per DoE calendar)
  • CUET UG 2026 Exam Window: Tentatively scheduled between May 11 and May 31, 2026 (Computer-Based Test mode)
  • Academic Session 2026-27: Expected to begin in July/August 2026 across most participating universities

The DoE calendar also factors in school holidays and other national-level exams (such as JEE and NEET) to ensure smooth functioning and minimal clashes for students.

Note: Exact registration opening date, last date, and detailed exam schedule will be notified soon by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on the official website cuet.nta.nic.in. Candidates are advised to keep checking the portal regularly.

Why This Early Announcement Matters

The release of the academic calendar by DoE gives students a clear roadmap. With CUET serving as the gateway to prestigious institutions like Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, and many others, early registration awareness helps aspirants:

  • Finalise subject combinations (maximum 5 subjects allowed)
  • Gather required documents (Class 10 & 12 marksheets, category certificates, photo, signature)
  • Align Class 12 board exam preparation with CUET domain-specific subjects

This proactive step minimises last-minute rush and allows better time management between board exams and entrance preparation.

CUET 2026 Exam Pattern (Expected to Continue)

  • Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  • Sections:
    • Section IA & IB: Languages
    • Section II: Domain-Specific Subjects
    • Section III: General Test (optional in some cases)
  • Duration per Subject: 60 minutes
  • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Marking: +5 for correct answer, -1 for incorrect (negative marking applies)

Students can choose domain subjects based on their Class 12 stream and desired undergraduate programme (BA, BSc, BCom, BTech, etc.).

Preparation Strategy for CUET 2026 Aspirants

With registrations starting soon, here’s what you should do now:

  • Strengthen NCERT concepts for domain subjects (Class 11 & 12 level)
  • Practice language proficiency and general aptitude regularly
  • Take mock tests to improve speed and accuracy in the CBT format
  • Stay updated with any changes in syllabus or pattern through official NTA notifications

Simultaneous preparation for Class 12 board exams and CUET is manageable if you create a balanced timetable focusing on overlapping topics.
